Day 11

LOG OF THE QUARANTINE

Day 11

Artist: ROULA PARTHENIOU

Word: ALWAYS

Rub-on numbers were applied to blank Super 8 leader film to create a camera-less film. A play on words and material, this film conjures up several associations: an endless countdown before a film, a moebuis strip, a fragile infinity. The endless loop deteriorates and the image degrades with each pass around the projector evoking a tension between subject and object.

Roula Partheniou’s (Canada, 1977) latest exhibition with Arróniz had place in February 2018. After the earthquake from 2017, ‘Odd Jobs’ was re installed in our new space in Mexico City.
Those were a hard times for Mexico, the society and the gallery but we could make it happen through it.
Now, in 2020 Mexico and the world are going through hard times once again. Working together and following healthy suggestions this nightmare will come to its end.

It always does.
