María Edwards

María Ignacia Edwards graduated from the School of Art at the Universidad Finis Terrae; she was the winner of the first open call of the international artist residency granted by the European Network of Digital Arts and Science. She has been dedicated to creating three-dimensional sculptures where objects appear to float. These consist of a multiplicity of fine elements suspended by a thread or wire, perfectly balanced by their own form and weight.

Her pieces rotate on their axis, showing hundreds of thin wooden rods joined together into geometric forms. At first glance, her work may appear purely aesthetic, but it is the result of complex mathematical and physical calculations. Her exhibitions have been presented in Austria, Spain, Mexico, and New York.
