MARÍA IGNACIA EDWARDS
Chile, 1982
María Ignacia Edwards graduated from the School of Art at the Universidad Finis Terrae; she was the winner of the first open call of the international artist residency granted by the European Network of Digital Arts and Science.
Maria Ignacia has been dedicated to creating three-dimensional sculptures where objects appear to float. Her sculptures consist of a multiplicity of fine objects suspended by a thread or wire where they are perfectly balanced by their own physical form and weight. These rotate on their own axis. Her sculptures show hundreds of thin wooden rods joined together to form three-dimensional geometric shapes. Perhaps at first glance, her works are perceived as purely artistic objects but are actually the result of complex mathematical and physical calculations.
Her exhibitions have been presented in Austria, Spain, Mexico, and New York.
